Greek myths tell of Silenus, a cheerful drunkard and companion of the god of wine Dionysus. Although he is often depicted as an old satyr with a belly full of wine, Silenus is said to have been surprisingly wise. He combined his love of partying with deep knowledge and taught Dionysus the pleasures of life, such as music, dance and, of course, wine. Silenus epitomised the idea of enjoying the simple pleasures of life and indulging in a little pleasure.
